Welcome to the resource center for
SMART: Stopping Methamphetamine Among Our Teens

A project sponsored by NWF Health, Inc.

THE PROBLEM

Nearly all of us know someone in our community who has been impacted by methamphetamine.  While use of the drug has dropped nationally over the last few decades, it has only increased in small towns in North Florida.  Most drug prevention campaigns targeting children and teens are focused on telling them that drugs are dangerous without telling them what they can do to stay safe and help someone who they suspect is at-risk for using drugs.

A SMART SOLUTION

NWF Health, Inc. partnered with Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith to conceive of a new kind of drug prevention program that is focused on the drug most negatively impacting North Florida — methamphetamine.  We then brought in the experts at DISC Village who already work in our community to provide substance abuse prevention and treatment.

Based on extensive research and the input of people from across North Florida, we developed a school-based curriculum paired with resources to get help right here in our community whenever it is needed.  We provide students and the trusted adults around them a way to take action when they recognize that they or someone they know may need help.  That's what makes this program SMART.
